10/10/2006: "Big Update Part 3 - Wedding Planning"
As I mentioned in Part 1, we spent a bit of time while we were in Ilfracombe looking at hotels in the area with licences for civil wedding ceremonies. If I remember correctly, we looked at seven places over the weekend. After six, there were a couple which were ok, but none had particularly inspired me.
Then on the Sunday afternoon we visited the 7th and final one - The Lee Bay Hotel, just outside Ilfracombe. It's set on the seafront, in a steep wooded valley, with huge gardens all around. This is the view from the windows of the hotel bar:
In the very best fairytale style, the last place we visited was the perfect one. We now have the hotel booked, the North Devon registrar booked, and on Thursday we have an appointment with the registrar here to "give notice of our intent to marry outside the district".
